movements “Movements” is a meditation on the repetitive process of building cloth line by line. I am interested in ideas of recurviseness, reflexivity and feedback loops. Thus, the sounds triggered through audience participation are abstractions of the sound of making of the cloth: a bobbin spinning in the boat shuttle, the loom’s air compressor humming or the sound of the reed beating the threads into place. By using granular synthesis to abstracting these sounds they begin referring to other types of technological innovations, such as a train or a typewriter. Sounds that most of us are familiar with.
